What is vibe coding?
A prompt-led style of software creation in which a person describes the desired outcome and lets an AI coding system generate and revise most of the implementation, often with limited inspection of the code itself.
Why is this important?
Vibe coding makes prototypes and small applications accessible to more people, but its speed can hide security, reliability, maintainability, and ownership risks when generated code reaches production.
How it works
A person states an outcome, the coding system edits files and runs the application, the person judges visible behavior, and the loop continues through natural-language feedback rather than detailed code review.
Technical example
A founder asks an AI coding tool to build a customer portal, pastes errors back into the chat, and iterates on the interface without manually editing the implementation.
Implementation notes
Distinguish vibe coding from professional AI engineering. For production work, inspect diffs, run tests, review dependencies, model threats, document architecture, and keep a developer accountable for the result.
